Being A Wikipedian May Be A Thankless Job, But They Say It’s Addictive – The Business Standard

On one good Friday afternoon in 2008, Subrata Roy, a 38-years-old librarian at a university in Narsingdi, learn one thing about Wikipedia in an area newspaper. 

Being a passionate author in Bangla, Subrata recharged his web modem that night time and began visiting the Wikipedia web site from that day. After two weeks, he obtained an acceptance mail with a contributor's hyperlink connected.

It has been 13 years for the reason that first mail arrived. Subrata is now the document holder because the writer of the very best variety of articles on Wikipedia Bangla. Thus far, he has printed 5,116 articles in whole.

How can somebody be so persistent in doing one thing like this voluntarily, with none remuneration?

"This may be a free, voluntary, even thankless job. However the quantity of information I've gained, the variety of individuals I've encountered, and the variety of platforms I have been to - I do not suppose it may be purchased for any sum of money. Solely the passionate hearts will perceive this quest," this was Subrata's response to the query.  

To cross-check this assertion, one other Wikipedian was contacted. Masum Al Hasan Rocky, an INGO officer at Cox's Bazar, is working because the treasurer of Wikimedia Basis. He has been writing for Bangla Wikipedia for the final 8 years.

To him, writing articles for the platform is nearly addictive. "Right here at Cox's Bazar, I've so many issues to do. However on weekends, I work for our Wikimedia Basis or write articles for Bangla Wikipedia.
